Our church's mission is “To develop multiethnic communities of disciples who experience God, love one another, and partner with Christ to heal the world.” Having people from very diverse backgrounds in our church is an extraordinary gift, yet Jesus calls us to go deeper. But where do we even begin when it comes to talking about race and ethnicity? For many of us, these conversations bring up feelings of pain, anxiety, frustration, confusion -- or all of the above!

Connie Anderson is both a long-time small group leader here at VC and a national multiethnicity specialist with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. InterVarsity is a national campus ministry that has been hugely influential in the lives of many of our VC pastors and leaders like Rich & Marlene Nathan, Bill Christensen, Insoo Kim, Ellie Smith, and our own John & Claudia Cook! For quite a few years, Connie has been training InterVarsity staff and students across the country in areas of race and ethnicity, and on Saturday, August 19th she will be presenting an introductory session called "A White Grandma Talks About Race." We hope you'll come with curiosity and open hearts!
